ABOUT THIS WEBSITE

Notes from Clinton Callahan:
In the spring of 2007 I accidentally discovered J. F. Rischard’s book High Noon: 20 Global Problems and 20 Years to Solve Them, which he wrote in 2002 – meaning that there were actually only 15 years remaining! Rischard is clear, innovative and responsible; he outlines in irrefutable detail the grave conditions we humans have gotten ourselves into, and I was ready to take action. I eagerly went online and discovered that Rischard’s website has been hijacked by an anonymous and unrelenting Viagra salesman.

The whole situation was unbelievable for me. I was shocked at my own naiveté. The world goes down before my eyes because of a profit-driven hacker, peddling chemically-hardened dicks to men disimpassioned by their over-civilized way of life. (How fitting...)

Then I found the book Original Wisdom by Robert Wolff. Robert’s words were magical. For the first time I personally experienced the depth and richness of life that is lost when modern civilization methodically exterminates aboriginal cultures. A new dimension of awareness opened up for me. www.wildwolff.com

Then in August 2007 Marion and I visited Mexico City, third largest metropolis in the world (www.citypopulation.de/World.html).

What an amazing place! Viewed from above as the jet lands the city looks like a bacteria colony rapidly creeping over the surrounding hills and valleys. With resources pouring in and wastes pouring out from feeding, housing, clothing and governing a population shooting past 22 million, it appears to be enjoying ideal conditions for growth.

And that is the moment the question arose for me. Are we really this stupid? Are we no more conscious than a bacteria colony, ravenously devouring all resources until we suffocate in our own poisonous shit? Have we human beings dedicated our entire existence to enacting a well-predicted and easily avoidable Malthusian collapse?

I then devoured Grunch of Giants by R. Buckminster Fuller, The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight by Thom Hartmann, Heat by George Monbiot, and finally got online to discover dozens of alternative news reports, and websites like John James’ www.planetextinction.com.

After that, the world did not look the same to me anymore. I had new priorities.

What is the use of enhancing natural talents of entrepreneurs and managers with cutting-edge soft skills in my training company if civilization collapses and the planet becomes uninhabitable in our lifetime?

It is now late January 2008. I stare out of my huge north-facing Munich office window (thanks to the complete lack of environmental awareness of the house builder). I notice car after car, train after train, and jet after jet roaring by endlessly. The difference is that I now perceive an end. We have five to eight years.

I did not want us to be this stupid. But I think we are.

World wide results reveal that both government and business are serving purposes far different from blessing humanity. Western capitalist consumer corporocracy has failed us. It is an extinct dinosaur taking its last few steps before crashing to the ground.

The most pressing question is what can people do at a grass-roots level to sustain human life on earth?

The answer is clear and simple: Just Stop. But what does Just Stop mean?

The earth is not ours to buy, sell, consume or pollute. Then how do we live?

Sustainable cultures are possible. What is sustainable culture?

There are no more prizes for predicting the rain, only for building the arks. What is an ark?

This website addresses these and other pressing questions. It is a nexus of collaborating new-culture experimenters. It exists because I can not avoid the responsibilities that arise from opening my eyes to what is really going on.

If you keep seeking answers to your deepest questions you too will have new responsibilities. Welcome to the Just Stop Build an Ark Team.

Clinton Callahan Munich 2008

“The only kinds of fights worth fighting are those you are going to lose, because somebody has to fight them and lose and lose and lose until someday, somebody who believes as you do wins. In order for somebody to win an important, major fight 100 years hence, a lot of other people have got to be willing - for the sheer fun and joy of it - to go right ahead and fight, knowing you’re going to lose. You mustn’t feel like a martyr. You’ve got to enjoy it.” -I. F. Stone

Editor’s note: I am enjoying it! But we don’t have 100 years anymore, maybe only five or eight. So, hey! Get with it. Just stop. Build an ark.
